Power tools are those tools that are actuated means of additional power source providing an increased amount of power with less input of manual labour as compared to the standard Hand Tools. Power tools are used everywhere ranging from your house to your workplace, namely in the Manufacturing industries, in construction,etc for purposes like drilling, cutting, shaping, sanding, grinding, routing, polishing, etc.

Power tools are classified as either stationary or portable.
A portable power tool is hand-held and have obvious advantages of mobility. Stationary power tools on the other hand are advantageous in terms of speed and accuracy.

1. Drill Machine

A Drill Machine is the most common Power Tools that one can find in any household and workplace. A Drill is a machine tool fitted with an attachment, which is usually a drill bit. It is used for boring holes in various materials and for other similar operations. The chuck grips the attachment at one end of the drill and while rotating, it is pressed against the target material surface. The various types of drills are:

• Corded Drill: The most common type of corded drill is a pistol-grip drill. These drills require constant supply of power for optimized performance. These drills are portable in nature and one of the most widely used drills.

A power saw uses an abrasive disc or plate for cutting materials using a rotatory or reciprocating motion depending on the type of saw used. These saws use electric power for the means of cutting. The various types of power saws are:

• Circular Saw: A circular saw is a power-saw that uses a toothed disc or blade to cut different materials using a rotary motion while spinning around an arbor.
• Reciprocating Saw: A reciprocating saw is a power saw which uses the mechanism of push and pull motion of the blade, and thus the name ‘reciprocating’.
• Band Saw: A bandsaw is a power saw with a long and sharp blade, which consists of a continuous band of toothed metal or blade stretched between the wheels to cut material. The biggest advantage of a bandsaw is its versatility produced while cutting – it is used for cutting curved or irregular shapes.
• Chop Saw: A Chop Saw is an abrasive saw which is used for cutting hard materials. The cutting mechanism is achieved by an abrasive wheel. Chop saws are generally large and more powerful and is used for producing straight cuts.

3. Angle Grinder

Also known as disc grinder, this is a hand held power tool used for the process of grinding, and a variety of other operations like cutting, polishing, etc. The various sources of power of angle grinder are: electric motor, petrol engine and pneumatic or compressed air.

4. Power Planer

Also known as Electric Planer, a power planer is used for producing flat and smooth surfaces. This functions like a hand planer, with the only difference being that it uses the source of electric power and is used for planing large tasks. This make the planing operation smooth, faster and more efficient.

5. Sander

A sander is a power tool used for smoothening surfaces by abrasion. Sanders have sandpapers attached to them. Smoothening of the work surface is achieved by moving the sandpaper rapidly while it is attached to the attachment. These are powered electrically or by compressed air based on the purpose of their use.

6. Rotary tools

A rotary tool is a hand held power tool which has a rotating tip, to which various attachments are attached. All such tools are similar to each other, however each one having their own specific functions and are used for achieving different tasks. They may be used in grinding, polishing, sanding, honing or machining.
